We “Cannes” Do It Film Screening and Improv Show

Help Independent Filmmakers get to Cannes Film Festival

Kansas City, MO: Local independent filmmakers Joe Carey, Davis DeRock, and Chad Crenshaw has received the superexciting news that their film ‘‘The Donald Gordon Story’ has been selected to screen at the biggest, most prestigious, film festival in the world, the May, 2014 Cannes Film Festival inCannes, France. This is an honor that is very rare for a film made in Kansas City, and collectively the three remarked, “We are extremely excited about the success of the film and this grand opportunity. Having worked with many talented filmmakers to create this project we are honored to represent the team and the rest of the Kansas City filmmaking community on an international level.”

The Kansas City film community is congratulating and celebrating this honorable achievement with the filmmakers by banding together to help finance sending the filmmakers to Cannes, so they can take full advantage of all the opportunities that Cannes has to offer.  Efforts to raise the funds are with online fundraisers and by hosting some fundraiser events.

CinemaKC will sponsor the first event, May 7, 2014 at the Screenland Crown Center Theatre, 2450 Grand Blvd., Kansas City, MO on level 3 at the Crown Center shops.  There will be a cash bar mixer at 7:00pm.

The screening, a compilation of shorts by the talented filmmaking group will start at 8:30pm and will end with the showing of the Cannes selected film, ‘The Donald Gordon Story’, and a Q&A with the filmmakers afterwards.  Prizes will be raffled off!

The second event will be Saturday, May 10, sponsored by Comedy City located in the back inside The Westport Flea Market, 817 Westport Rd, Kansas City, MO.  The mixer starts at 4:00pm and the 90 minute show will start at 5:00pm.  The show theme will be movies and centered around scenes based on audience suggestions.  Food and drinks available to order. Prizes will be raffled off!

‘The Donald Gordon Story’ is about celebrity Chef Donald Gordon losing his job and having a hard time coping with his new reality. To qualify and be accepted for the Cannes Film Festival, the film was entered in the 48 Hours Film Project and won the Kansas City round and then received favorable mention in the second round called Filmapalooza, but did not win.  Just recently, the Cannes opened up a few more spots from the 48 Hours Film Project and the judges unanimously decided to send‘The Donald Gordon Story’ on to Cannes.
