About:             CinemaKC, a newly formed not-for-profit organization connecting film related groups in Kansas and Missouri, salutes the members of Kansas City Women in Film & TV on Thursday, November 11th with a screening at the Screenland Crown Center.

The mission of Kansas City Women in Film & TV is to empower, promote and mentor women in film & the media.  Kansas City women are involved in every facet of filmmaking from screen writers, directors, producers, actors, cinematographers through the editing process, marketing and more… They are in every genre – horror, comedy, drama, children and family films.  They produce works for fun and profit for the big screen, television and webisodes for the internet.  They are passionate about film.

This CinemaKC event showcases talented KC Women in Film & TV members with shorts, trailers and teasers.  Many KCWIFT members are award winners.  Everything from screenwriting competitions, Film Festivals and audience awards to the General Motors Acceleration Grant and a recent webisode series, The Unreal Housewives of Kansas City that won a local Emmy! Some have found national and international distribution.  There will be Q&A with the filmmakers after the screenings.

“Our CinemaKC events have been highly successful to date,” according to Founder John Shipp.   “We have hosted events with our partner organizations the KC Film Commission, the Independent Filmmakers Coalition, and recently displayed the talents of Film Department students at UMKC.   In our November 11th event, we will showcase the fine work being created by our local women filmmakers, who are a significant part of the gifted talent pool that lives and works in Kansas City.”

“Facilitating people sharing ideas and coming together to create a great film community,” says Organizer Vicky Bates “is what CinemaKC is all about.”

CinemaKC is an initiative of the Film Society of Greater Kansas City, connecting with movie lovers since 1991.  For more information contact Vicky Bates at 816-506-2111 or vbates555@gmail.com.
