CinemaKC Board member Anthony ‘Tony’ Mark Morningstar passed suddenly on December 29, 2021. He was 57 years-old.
Tony was a long-time member of Kansas City’s film community who also volunteered with the Kansas International Film Festival (KIFF). At CinemaKC, he had distinguished himself on the Programming Committee by Co-Producing a Director Talk Series for KIFF. He served a term with CinemaKC as Vice President.
We all knew him as full of ideas and good humor. He leaves a cousin, Jerry Rapp, who serves as Co-Chairman of the Board of CinemaKC.
A celebration of Tony’s life will be held at one of his favorite places: the Glenwood Arts Theater, 3707 W. 95th Street, Overland Park, KS 66206, on Saturday, March 26, beginning at 1:00 p.m. There will be testimonials and a presentation, along with a screening of one of his favorite movies. Anyone not able to stay through the movie can gather with friends and family in the Glenwood lobby during and/or after the screening. Plans are being laid for interment in his family plot later in spring/summer. We will post a date when it has been arranged.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted to help with Tony’s final costs. Any remaining funds will be split between two non-profits important to him: CinemaKC and the Center For Recorded Music.

PATRICIA HAMARSTROM WILLIAMS, M.F.A., Ph.D.abd is storyteller with international film and theatre directing and new media credits. Her film credits include “A Tomb for Boris Davidovich”, “A Long Day’s Journey Into Night”, “Othello”, and “Tiger Dance”; work at Cinecitta and for Universal Studios. She has also directed at major theatres, including Lincoln Center, American Repertory Theatre, Missouri (now Kansas City) Repertory Theatre, national Shakespeare Festivals, and the National Theatre of Serbia.
Hamarstrom Williams has served as Executive Director of both the Kansas City Film Festival and the KAN Film Festival. She is Vice President of the Board of CinemaKC, having joined in 2014.
