We are hoping that it educates and motivates current artists. It is a welcome opportunity to sponsor the 20th Anniversary Celebration presented by the Kansas City FilmFest International\,” said Jerry Rapp\, CinemaKC co-founder. \nThe events portrayed in the novel and film version of Ride with the Devil take place in Missouri and Kansas\, amidst escalating guerrilla warfare at the onset of the American Civil War. A dramatization of the Lawrence Massacre is depicted. Tobey Maguire stars as Jake Roedel\, a Southern militiaman\, who joins a group of marauders known as the Bushwhackers. The gang attempts to disrupt and marginalize the political activities of Northern Jayhawkers allied with Union soldiers \nThe film explores politics\, violence\, and war. Over 140 extras played Lawrence residents\, and more than 200 Civil War re-enactors were brought in to relay their style of living to the filming sequences. \nPrincipal photography began on March 25\, 1998. Filming took place primarily on location in Sibley\, Missouri\, Kansas City\, Kansas and Kansas City\, Missouri.  Pattonsburg\, Missouri also stood in as a primary filming set locale. The set design production team removed telephone poles and utilized truckloads of dirt to cover existing asphalt and concrete. \n“The kind of robust production in Ride with the Devil\, attracting major outside talent\, represents exactly the kind of circumstances many in Kansas City are working to get back to\,” said Jerry Rapp\, CinemaKC co-founder. “We are thrilled to collaborate with The Kansas City FilmFest International in this effort to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this classic\, locally made film.” \n  \nThe CinemaKC Legacy Series is devoted to presenting classic films that were filmed in the region\, with Kansas City locations\, cast and crew.
