Remember, 11-11-11 is Nigel Tufnel Day

It’s also the day of CinemaKC’s fall fundraiser!

But more about the rock guitarist to end all rock guitarists.

From Yahoo…

Enthusiasts of loud (if not necessarily critically acclaimed) music know all about Tufnel. He’s the fictional rocker from the semifictional band Spinal Tap who loves to turn his amps up to 11 when he needs that “extra push over the cliff.” What better time to celebrate and salute the man and his technique than on 11/11/11?

We first learned of the unofficial holiday through Facebook, where folks are preparing to honor the great guitarist. One fan writes, “Friday, in Honor if Nigel Tufnel Day and Veterans Day, I will be turning it up to 11 and rocking the Star-Spangled banner.” Web searches on the holiday are on the rise, jumping 20% over the past 24 hours.

And here’s a clip from Spinal Tap…

We hope you can join us for our 11-11-11 Fall fundraiser at the Screenland Crossroads.

Here are more details about the event…

Celebrate the hilarious 1984 rock mockumentary, “This Is Spinal Tap,” on screen and on stage on Friday, Nov. 11, at the Screenland Crossroads Theatre, 1656 Washington. Tickets are $11; those born on 11-11 will be admitted free.

“Go to 11 on 11-11-11 with Spinal Tap” will relive the sights, the sounds…and the smells of England’s loudest band of drummer-snuffing heavy metal heroes – Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls (a.k.a. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer) – and their ludicrous collection of amplified guitars that inexplicably “go to 11.”

- See “This is Spinal Tap” screenings at 8:11 and 11:11 p.m.
- Hear local Spinal Tap tribute band Smell the Glove expertly tackle 11 stubbornly timeless Tap tunes, including “Hell Hole,” “Big Bottom,” “Sex Farm,” “Heavy Duty,” “Stonehenge” and “Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight.”
- Meet legendary Kansas City rock radio personality Skid Roadie from 101 the Fox
- Play the “Go to 11” Swag Raffle ($5 a ticket), including movie memorabilia, CD/DVD packages and a Screenland Theatres Annual VIP Pass for Two.
- Come as your favorite Spinal Tap character and receive a free raffle ticket and a free Screenland movie pass to a future event.
- Visit dealer tables with t-shirts, comics and other cool collectible schwag.

Given the topsy-turvy world of heavy rock in general and Spinal Tap in particular, anything could happen and probably will on the big night, says Smell the Glove singer/guitarist Dave Patmore: “It would be nice if we could blow up at least one drummer on stage. Remember, it’s a fine line between stupid and clever.”

Who doesn’t enjoy dinner and a movie?

Film fans can put the two together in an appetizing new way starting Sept. 24 when “CinemaKC,” featuring Kansas City area filmmakers, moves from 9:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays on KSMO-TV, Channel 62. (Programs will be repeated at midnight on Sundays.)

Each half-hour show highlights shorts by area filmmakers who are deftly interviewed about their live-action and animated stories encompassing drama, comedy, romance, science-fiction and horror, as well as documentary and student-produced projects.

“We hope the earlier broadcast time slot introduces the show to an even broader range of potential regular viewers,” says executive producer Jerry Rapp.

The “CinemaKC” TV series, now in its second successful season, is produced by CinemaKC, a non-profit organization that promotes filmmakers in Missouri and Kansas.
