CinemaKC & MAPA Present the 1st Animation Celebration @ Boulevard Drive-In!

See the best animation from the Midwest and beyond when CinemaKC and the Midwest Association of Professional Animators present the first MAPA Animation Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Boulevard Digital Drive-In Theatre, 1051 Merriam Lane, Kansas City, Kan.

Admission is $20 per car.

Kansas City TV personality Michelle Davidson (co-host of “CinemaKC” on KSMO, Channel 62, and co-host of “KC Live” on KSHB, Channel 41) will emcee the Animation Celebration, featuring the entertaining creations of student, amateur and professional animators shown on the largest drive-in movie screen (70 x 100 ft.) in Kansas.

The celebration begins at 5 p.m. with art vendors and a Mentor Center, where animators of all stripes will have the opportunity to screen and discuss their works side by side. Mentors from T2+Back Alley Films and the Adobe Design Core and Video Core Groups will be among the pros ready to answer questions.

The Boulevard ground camera will also give willing artists a chance to make their own silver screen debuts and explain their works before a live audience.

Submission screenings start at 8:30 p.m., including dynamic works from such local studios as MK12, Bazillion Pictures, Trinity Animation, T2+Back Alley Films and BRNTFX, as well as inspired student offerings from the Blue Valley Schools Caps program, Johnson County Community College and the Kansas City Art Institute.

Other notable submissions: “How to Put a Square Peg Into a Round Hole” by longtime MAPA member and local illustrator/animator Mary C. Taylor; “MOPEYS” by Vancouver Film School student Miang Tassniyom; and “Choreography” by David Fain, who was a staff writer for “SpongeBob SquarePants” and an animation supervisor for Warner Bros.
