CinemaKC and Kansas City Improv Festival invite audiences to “Trust Us”

CinemaKC and the Kansas City Improv Festival present the laugh-inducing documentary film, “Trust Us, This Is All Made Up,” at 2 p.m. Sept. 2 and Sept. 9 at the Screenland Crown Center Theatre, 2450 Grand Blvd. Tickets are available at screenland.com.

“ ‘Trust Us, This Is All Made Up’,’’ is a gem of a documentary and a natural companion to the Kansas City Improv Festival,” says Jerry Rapp, co-founder of CinemaKC, which supports the film community in Missouri and Kansas. “We’re looking forward to starting what we hope is a long collaboration with a great fest that’s become a KC tradition.”

“Trust Us, This Is All Made Up” features an extraordinary live performance by long-form improvisational comedy masters and Second City veterans TJ Jagodowski (Sonic Drive-In Guy, “Stranger than Fiction”) and David Pasquesi (“Groundhog Day,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) at New York’s Barrow Street Theater. The film reveals the reciprocal faith at the heart of the duo’s working relationship and the inspiring challenges involved with spontaneously creating totally original, character-driven, hour-long improvisations that leave audience members not only quaking from laughter but shaking their heads in wonder.

“Trust Us, This Is All Made Up” delivers “an intellectual high-wire act as astonishing as it is entertaining” (The New York Times) with “moments of triumph” (The Village Voice) and “the rewards that come from trusting your partner implicitly and getting out of the art’s way – it’s also really effing funny” (The Onion).

The Kansas City Improv Festival kicks off Sept. 7 and 8 and continues Sept 14 and 15 at The Off Center Theatre at Crown Center and Sept. 13 at the Kick Comedy Theatre at the Westport Coffeehouse, 4010 Pennsylvania. The festival features 14 improv comedy troupes and special guests Paul F. Tompkins (“Mr. Show,” “Best Week Ever,” “There Will Be Blood”) and Colin Hanks (“Dexter,” “Orange County,” “Band of Brothers”). For tickets and more information, go to kcimprovfestival.com.
