NORRIS’ CANDY APPLE RED DEBUT SELLS OUT!

“Last night was HUGE for Kansas City’s Independent movie scene,” according to Tony’s Kansas City Blog.

Filmmaker Todd Norris Debuted his short film Candy Apple Red to a capacity crowd at The Screenland Crown Center.

ORGANIZERS OF THE EVENT REPORT THAT THEY TURNED AWAY MORE THAN TWO DOZEN PEOPLE!!!

Cinema KC and The Kansas City IFC deserve credit for spreading the word.

Norris featured above with Lisa Marie Evans, Sharon Wright and Jerry Rapp answered questions from the enthusiastic gathering about the process of developing the short movie over a year.

KANSAS CITY, MO – CinemaKC, a not-for-profit organization connecting film related groups in Kansas and Missouri, will host the Kansas City Film Critics Circle on Thursday, December 2 at the Screenland Crown Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by an informal mixer at 6:30 p.m. Kansas City Film Critics Circle members will be on hand to meet the public before and after the screening. The evening will include the screening of at least 17 film trailers for upcoming theatrical releases and Oscar predictions.

The Kansas City Film Critics Circle was founded in 1966 by the late Dr. James Loutzenhiser, and is the second oldest critics’ organization in the country, after the New York Film Critics Circle.  The KCFCC currently has 28 members, representing print, broadcast and online media. John Shipp, founder of CinemaKC commented, “Our area is extremely fortunate to have such a strong base of nationally known and respected film critics, and this will be a great opportunity to meet many of them.” Loey Lockerby, president of Kansas City Film Critics Circle, and known from her reviews in The Kansas City Star and appearances on the Walt Bodine Show, will welcome the audience and introduce the evening’s entertainment. The critics will discuss the trailers throughout the screening period and have a Question and Answer session at the end.

Tickets for the event are $10, and are available at www.screenland.com or at the door.  Student tickets with ID are $5. CinemaKC is an initiative of the Film Society of Greater Kansas City, connecting with movie lovers since 1991.

About:             CinemaKC, a newly formed not-for-profit organization connecting film related groups in Kansas and Missouri, salutes the members of Kansas City Women in Film & TV on Thursday, November 11th with a screening at the Screenland Crown Center.

The mission of Kansas City Women in Film & TV is to empower, promote and mentor women in film & the media.  Kansas City women are involved in every facet of filmmaking from screen writers, directors, producers, actors, cinematographers through the editing process, marketing and more… They are in every genre – horror, comedy, drama, children and family films.  They produce works for fun and profit for the big screen, television and webisodes for the internet.  They are passionate about film.

This CinemaKC event showcases talented KC Women in Film & TV members with shorts, trailers and teasers.  Many KCWIFT members are award winners.  Everything from screenwriting competitions, Film Festivals and audience awards to the General Motors Acceleration Grant and a recent webisode series, The Unreal Housewives of Kansas City that won a local Emmy! Some have found national and international distribution.  There will be Q&A with the filmmakers after the screenings.

“Our CinemaKC events have been highly successful to date,” according to Founder John Shipp.   “We have hosted events with our partner organizations the KC Film Commission, the Independent Filmmakers Coalition, and recently displayed the talents of Film Department students at UMKC.   In our November 11th event, we will showcase the fine work being created by our local women filmmakers, who are a significant part of the gifted talent pool that lives and works in Kansas City.”

“Facilitating people sharing ideas and coming together to create a great film community,” says Organizer Vicky Bates “is what CinemaKC is all about.”
